Support In Your Community

24-Hour Movement Guidelines

The new Canadian 24-Hour Movement Guidelines for Children and Youth encourage children and youth to “Sweat, Step, Sleep and Sit”. For optimal health benefits, children and youth (aged 5 – 17 years) should achieve high levels of physical activity, low levels of sedentary behaviour, and sufficient sleep each day.

Community Health Centre (CHC)

CHCs work with individuals, families and communities to strengthen their capacity to take more responsibility for their health and wellbeing. They provide education and advice on helping families access the resources they need from other community agencies. Many have physical activity programs and experts that could support your activities.

Foundations for a Healthy School

The Foundations for a Healthy School is designed to help contribute to a learning environment that promotes and supports child and student well-being – one of the four core goals in Ontario’s renewed vision for education.

Jumpstart

Jumpstart’s core purpose is to enrich the lives of kids (from 4 to 18) in need through sports and physical activity. They support over 70 different activities, while assisting with the costs associated with registration, equipment and/or transportation.

Ontario Physical Activity Safety Standards in Education

The Ontario Physical Activity Safety Standards in Education, managed by Ophea, represent the minimum standards for risk management practice for school boards. They focus the attention of teachers, intramural supervisors, and coaches on safe practices, in every activity, in order to minimize the element of risk. The Safety Standards include concussion protocols to help prevent and identify suspected concussions and manage a student’s safe return to learning and physical activity.

Public Health

Public Health Units have staff who are qualified to deliver training on healthy eating and who have experience with healthy schools. Your local public health unit can be a great source of support to students for this project.
