This e-Learning module is designed to support school boards in fulfilling their responsibility to provide annual training and resources on prevalent medical conditions for all school staff. It facilitates the implementation of PPM 161: Supporting Children and Students with Prevalent Medical Conditions (Anaphylaxis, Asthma, Diabetes, and/or Epilepsy) in Schools.
By completing this e-Learning module participants will learn:

legal requirements that inform school boards’ policies and procedures for supporting students with prevalent medical conditions in school;
-
the roles and collective responsibilities of school boards, principals, school staff, students, and parent(s)/guardian(s) in managing prevalent medical conditions;
-
strategies for supporting the inclusion and participation of students with prevalent medical conditions in school;
-
the four prevalent medical conditions, including their definition, prevalence, and impact on students;
-
daily management and risk reduction strategies to minimize student exposure to triggers and causative agents;
-
signs and symptoms of medical incidents and emergencies, and the steps to respond effectively; and
-
additional strategies and resources developed by health and education partners.
The module was developed in partnership with Asthma Canada, Canadian Paediatric Society (Diabetes at School), Epilepsy Ontario, Food Allergy Canada, and the Lung Health Foundation.
