This webinar is intended for elementary educators. Together, in partnership with School Mental Health Ontario, this webinar will unpack the Strand A: Social-Emotional Learning Skills including implementation and assessment strategies. Mental health literacy in the context of Health and Physical Education will be introduced as a lead up to the next webinar in this series.
By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Describe the new Health and Physical Education elementary curriculum, Strand A: Social Emotional Learning Skills(SELs) and how to implement and assess
- Determine next steps and further sources of credible information on the Health and Physical Education and Social-Emotional Learning Skills
Presenters
Gail Lalonde is a registered Social Worker who completed both her BSW and MSW at King’s University College, Western University. Gail has worked in education for the last 18 years in a variety of roles including as a front line School Social Worker, Mental Health Leader and Supervisor of Professional Support Services with responsibility for social work, psychology, and speech and language services. In her current role, Gail is the Director of Learning and Training for School Mental Health Ontario. In addition to her work at SMH-ON, Gail is a Clinical Supervisor at the Child & Youth Development Clinic, at the Faculty of Education at Western University.
With over 25 years in the education system, Nicki Keenliside has just returned to the classroom after a 3 year secondment as an Education Officer with the Student Achievement Division of the Ministry of Education. Prior to that she was an Instructional Leader for K-8 Health & Physical Education with the Toronto District School Board. Currently teaching Grades 3 - 8 Health and Physical Education at John English Junior Middle School, she is also sitting on the executive of OASPHE (Ontario Association for the Support of Physical and Health Educators). Nicki is currently pursuing her Masters in Curriculum and Pedagogy at the University of Alberta.
