About the Podcast

Gym Shorts is a podcast that explores the powerful, personal, and often uncomfortable stories behind our earliest experiences with Health and Physical Education (H&PE). The podcast gives voice to those experiences, highlighting real stories from diverse perspectives with the goal of shifting mindsets, challenging outdated practices, and inspiring positive change in schools, at a time when educators are increasingly focused on student belonging and creating inclusive environments.

Each 20-minute episode features a different guest sharing their unique school memories. Their insights reveal how H&PE class can have a lasting impact on the way we live, move, and take care of ourselves as adults. Join hosts and Ophea staff, Andrea Haefele and Tammy Shubat, as they share stories and talk about how we can work together to make H&PE class the best part of every student’s day.

Gym Shorts was produced by Mike Meehan. The theme song and music were written and performed by Ron Kelly. The Gym Shorts logo was created by Fred Galang, a secondary school educator in York Region, Ontario.

Please note that Gym Shorts is currently available in English only.
