A Journey through Canada’s NEW Food Guide: What Educators Need to Know

This webinar is intended for elementary educators and will include a discussion on Canada’s Food Guide and how to support students’ understanding of Canada's Food Guide.

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Describe Canada’s Food Guide and the connections to the Health and Physical Education Curriculum
  • Apply relevant teaching strategies to support their students’ understanding of Canada’s Food Guide
  • Understand what resources are available to support their teaching practice in regards to Canada’s Food Guide and healthy eating

Presenters

Cara Rosenbloom is a dietitian and the owner of Words to Eat By, a Toronto-based nutrition education company. Cara started her career at The Hospital for Sick Children, which solidified her interest in pediatrics. She writes about nutrition for Today’s Parent, Chatelaine and the Washington Post, and is currently working on her second book, Food to Grow On (Random House 2020), which is about nutrition during pregnancy, infancy and early childhood. She is the mom of two wonderfully funny kids, aged 12 and 8.

Robin MacDonald (BSc, BPHE, BEd, OCT) is an Ambassador for Ophea, and a Specialist Health and Physical Education and Special Education teacher with the Near North DSB. Her passion lies with helping children learn to appreciate the lifelong benefits of healthy, active living in traditional and outdoor education contexts. When she’s not teaching or working with Ophea, Robin spends her time paddling, skiing, hiking, and exploring the forest in the Muskoka area where she lives with her husband and three young children.
