What Is it All About?

Student leaders organize and implement a noon hour soccer tournament.

Why Do It?

Small groups or pairs of students participate in a student-led soccer tournament.

How Do We Do It?

Divide students into groups of 2–4 or have them enter pre-created teams as part of the tournament.

Have students play in a small activity area (approximately one quarter of a gymnasium or field). Each team uses one pylon for a goal, which the other team must hit with the ball in order to score a goal. Have the students try to hit the pylons to score a goal while defending their own goal. There are no goalies in this game. When a student from one team scores, the other team gets the ball and immediately starts playing from in front of their goal.

Student leaders act as referees and support participating students with organization and rules.

What Else Do We Need?

  • Pylons
  • Soccer balls

How Do We Get Creative?

Increase or decrease the size of the activity area.

Consider celebrations celebration effort and active participation.

Encourage teams to create fun and unique names.

Invite members of the community to participate as official referees.
