Why We Make Healthy Food Choices

Students create a slogan that reflects the importance of being aware of their eating habits. Students can create a mural and set up a station outside of the cafeteria so they can encourage their peers to think about healthy eating as well.

Student leaders and members of the community lead parents through an activity sessions during Parent Night to promote healthy eating.

Mis Information

Working in both small and large groups, students review food and beverage advertisements and identify persuasive techniques used by the food industry to sell a product. Then students turn them upside down and use the same techniques for healthier food and drinks.

Healthy Eating Challenge

Healthy eating can be challenging. Student leaders share a list of general food and nutrition-related concerns that teens sometimes have. Students then create a possible list of solutions.

Is It Healthy?

Student leaders display photographs of sample lunches of typical youth in a common area of the school and challenge peers to decide whether each is healthy per Canada’s Food Guide, and what changes can make meals healthier if needed.

Caught Eating Healthy

Creating a healthy school reward for students seen making healthy food choices during the school day.

Food’s Story

Student leaders learn the story of a specific kind of food as it travels from the farm to your plate and then create a poster to be shared with the class or school profiling the food item as if it were a celebrity.

School Cook Book

Student leaders interview teachers and collect some of their favourite recipes made with vegetables and fruit.

Getting the facts about food/nutrition/healthy eating can be tough. Students work in small groups to research a question of their interest related to food, nutrition, healthy eating, and well-being.
