What Is it All About?
Use your creative talents to paint ceramic tiles with positive words, phrases, or messages. Consider using one of the Draw-The-Line resources as a starting message, or one of the terms from the It Starts With You glossary.
Why Do It?
Art is a great form of expression, and the tiles can be displayed as a reminder of an important message.
How Do We Do It?
Create a clear message for students to respond to.
Distribute blank ceramic tiles to everyone who is interested.
Host a tile-painting session (lunch hour, break, after school).
Paint words, images, or designs to represent the theme.
Once dry, the tiles can be displayed as a group on a school wall to create a stunning display.
Work with your adult ally to get permission to display the tiles in a high-traffic area in your school.
What Else Do We Need?
- Ceramic tiles
- Paints, brushes
How Do We Get Creative?
All tiles could incorporate one common element (e.g., a colour or word).
Tiles could be designed so that when grouped together, they form one big picture, like a mosaic.
For an LGBTQ message of support, multi-coloured tiles could be arranged to form a rainbow.
Try using different materials (like pieces of paper or sticky notes) instead of tiles.
