What Is it All About?

Ask for participants to join in a fun game of Family Feud where all of the survey questions are related to cannabis.

Why Do It?

This is a popular style of game that will help to raise awareness about cannabis topics in a fun, engaging way. The game can be done quickly as a lunch time activity or during a break in the school day.

How Do We Do It?

Work with your team and your adult ally to compile a list of questions about cannabis, such as, “What is the most common reason that people use cannabis? What age group tends to be the largest users of cannabis?” You can find lots of information about cannabis on Ophea’s Cannabis Education Resource Database.

Create a survey of your questions; ask 100 students to complete the survey, and record the 8 most common responses for each question.

Search the Internet for a customizable electronic template to create your game. There are many good templates that are free to use.

Decide how you will run your game. Consider the following questions for guidance:

  • How many teams can you accommodate?
  • How many questions will make up one competition?
  • How many days will you run the game?
  • Will you have a championship game?
  • Will you award prizes?

Decide on your roles and responsibilities: Who will play host? Who will work the technology? Who will create the schedule and keep score?

Advertise your game to create excitement about it.

Invite participants to sign up in teams of five. You could decide the criteria for each “family” (e.g., a representative or team from each grade).

Create your game schedule and have fun running your Family Feud while increasing awareness about cannabis.

Ideas for Use in a Variety of Settings

Use a shared document for your team to compile a list of questions about cannabis.

Use an online survey tool to gather information about the 8 most common responses for each question on your survey.

Use a game-based learning platform to create your Family Feud game and a virtual meeting platform to run your game.

Use your school media platforms to promote the event and invite participants to play.

Consider hosting a virtual Family Feud Night for community members to play and learn more about cannabis.

What Else Do We Need?

  • A list of questions about cannabis and a survey of student responses
  • The computer generator game
  • A projector
  • A space (or platform) to run the game
  • Student participants to compete as families
  • Prizes for the winning “family” (if desired)

How Do We Get Creative?

Offer prizes that are not monetary in value.

Create a take-home format for families.

Create a Family Feud game night at the school.

Run a game as part of a larger healthy school event or as part of a nationally recognized day, such as Weedless Wednesday or World Health Day.
