What Is it All About?

In this "spooktacular" activity, parents/caregivers, students, and community members work together during a Family Activity Night to complete a series of Halloween-themed missions as quickly as possible.

Why Do It?

Sweat it out in a small group, working together to complete 7 Halloween-themed missions.

How Do We Do It?

Teachers, students and parents/caregivers work together in self-formed groups of 5–6.

Each group completes the following activities together as quickly as possible.

Groups can complete the mission in any order but must remain together.

  • Spider Web – While linking elbows, groups job around the activity area three times without breaking arms (the web)
  • Frankenstein Run – Run the entire length of the activity area with arms stretched out in front and taking long strides.
  • Ghost Ship – Skip around the activity area four times.
  • Circle the Cauldron – Holding hands skip in a circle 3 times in one direction and 3 times in the other.
  • Black Cat – Crawl the length of the activity area on your hands and knees.
  • Monster March – March quickly with high knees and arms reaching above your head 25 times.
  • Graveyard Jumps – Pretend to run through a haunted graveyard jumping and leaping away from ghosts.

What Else Do We Need?

Consider providing missions on paper for groups to keep with them, or listing all missions for everyone to read on poster paper at the front of the activity area.

How Do We Get Creative?

Students add their own Halloween-themed missions.

Celebrate the holidays with healthy snacks including fruits and vegetables or popcorn.

Consider making healthy snacks using pumpkin (e.g., roasted pumpkin seeds).

Students create invitations, decorations, and a music playlist associated with the theme.

Play spooky sounds.
